$50,000 Buys a Whole Lotta Lip Chap!

Congratulations are in order for Saaphyri Windsor, the winner of VH-1’s reality show, Flavor of Love Girls: Charm School.

Those of you who watched The Flavor of Love 2 might remember Ms. Windsor as the young woman who opened a single serving sized can of whoop-ass on a fellow contestant in a fight over sleeping arrangements. While both young ladies sat in a waiting area preparing to explain the how’s and why’s of the altercation, Saaphyri diplomatically asked the lumped-up woman, “Want some lip chap?” and attempted to hand her the lip balm she was using. And for some reason the girl had the nerve to talk to Saaphyri like she was crazy.

This was in fact, one of the funniest scenes of the season, right up there with sister girl who ecstatically pooped on the floor while toasting making it through another week of elimination. I frankly was disappointed that young lady did not make it to Charm School. But, pooping during a toast might be considered proper form in some circles.

And since pounding someone’s head against a wall generally leads to a least one person having to go far, far away (either to jail or the hospital), Saaphyri was disqualified from Flavor of Love 2. We did not get to meet Saaphyri until she rode the short bus to Charm School. And I am glad in some way that in getting to know her I had no association of her with Flave’s skinny little fingers and his grill-adorned mouth all over her. She was her own woman, and in time we began to understand her motivation, and how having had everything taken from her when her father died made what little she had so precious to her. It was in Mo’Nique’s  seeing the evolution of the Saaphyri  that made her choose Saaphyri as the $50,000 winner. If she puts her energy into the business ventures she has started with a portion of her winnings, I think she will be very successful. A good heart and a lot of street smarts can take you a long way in the world.

Saaphyri has appeared as herself on The Tyra Banks Show in 2006, had a small roll in the 2007 film, Viva, and was also in the Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize nominated, MacArthur Park.
