Big Brother 8: Player’s Fatal Mistakes, Part 2

Sunday I reviewed what I thought was the fatal mistakes in each player in the Big Brother house this season that got them sent packing. Today I am going to take a look at the house guests that will be making up tonight’s jury and what I think got them a stay in sequester.

Dustin: No other way to look at it; Dustin got himself sent to the jury house. Anyone who is so arrogant to ask to be put on the block just so that they can be the one to say a mean-spirited goodbye to their nemesis is taking a big risk. It was always amusing the way Dustin would think that he made major moves to get the person before him evicted. The only one he got evicted for sure was himself.

Jen:
Some people may debate what got her kicked out of the house, but again, I think this was a situation where she got herself kicked out. People in the house didn’t care for Jen to begin with, and I was never really sure what game she was playing. However, I liked her and thought she was fun to watch. But the meltdown she suffered after getting put on the block, and the cigarette scandal that followed were a bit unexpected, coming from someone who said she was just in the house for the experience and not the game. And well, to “perform eating”, when she was not allowed to perform eating at all showed disrespect for her house guests and the game. But, all things considered, she was going to end up performing leaving within two weeks anyway.

Amber:
Despite lots of talk about the game, Amber had no game. She was not smart, not a great physical competitor, and not one of the “good people”, as she thought. Those facts were enough to keep her around that long, and they were enough to send her packing before it came down to the wire.

Jessica: Despite what Jessica thought of her own game, she was a part of a team, and surely not the brains of the operation. Which is not at all to say she is stupid. For the most part, she was the won who could win competitions on occasion and Eric was the actual “mastermind”. But had she stayed longer, she had a very good chance of making it to the end without him.

Eric: Where do I start with “The Eyebrow”? Eric was put in a very unenviable position, having to play for America, and try to play his game as well. And we put him at risk several times, and he managed to talk himself out of the range of fire. Even though he told Julie that there were things he would have done differently, I think by preventing him from making those moves, we kept him in the house longer. And we also prevented the Late Night Crew from truly becoming another despicable Nerd Herd, which is what would have happened had he made his moves. It was Eric’s time to go when he did. Besides, he didn’t have what it takes to pull of the physicality of the final HOH competition. If my calculations are correct, he is walking away with a grand total of $70,000 (tasks completed + sequester). Not bad at all.

Jameka: Talk about a series of fatal mistakes. She sacrificed her own game twice to keep other people in the house. Ironically, I think that giving up the chance to play for Head of Household is what kept her around so long. She was average at competitions, so she wasn’t a threat in that way. And she couldn’t be head of household, so she could never put anyone on the block. She got along with everyone, so no one ever wanted her to go for personal reasons. And had she gone to the end, she probably would have won the votes. That’s why she went when she did.

Zach:
You gotta hand it to Zach. He played a good game. A lot of the reason his game worked so well is that people were so uncomfortable around him that people didn’t try to bring him into an alliance, except for the Donatos. He pretty much laid low in terms of game play until it was actually necessary, and then he played like hell. But when it came down to the final three, the odds were against him. If it had been a normal final three situation, a deal would have probably been cut with him and the other person left on the carrot, and he probably could have ensured himself a place in the final two. But you can’t cut a deal when your opponents are related.

Now for my prediction: Dick will be the winner of Big Brother 8, because he played hard, physically and mentally. And when he wasn’t in his verbal attack strategy mode, he was capable of social interaction with the house guests, which was something Dani didn’t want to do. How many times did she whine about hating everyone in the house? She played a good game, but I don’t know if the total sum of her game was better than her father’s.

But as I said Sunday, whether you like the person or not has no bearing on whether they deserve to win. The bottom line is, the winner deserves to win. Because at the end of it all Big Brother is just a television show where real people are put into an artificial setting to entertain an audience, usually for cash and prizes.

Don’t hate the players, hate the game.
