House Flipping Reality Shows Paint Unrealistic Picture

Ever watch a show like Flip This House or Designed to Sell, and think that maybe you should partner up with somebody and get rich in real estate fixing up houses and reselling them for a profit? Aside from the fact that there’s a good chance that you lack the skills you need to renovate a house from top to bottom by yourself, flipping a house is not as easy as these reality shows would lead you to think.
One of the major problems of flipping a house in 2008 is the nation’s economy. Unless you’ve only been watching reality shows the past six months, you are probably aware of the dire straits the real estate market is in these days. You can’t sell a house when no one can afford one.
Alan J. Heavens of The Philadelphia Inquirer wrote a good article, explaining the pitfalls of believing that flipping a house is as easy to do as you see on tv, and he also gives a few reasons for the unrealistic portrayal of the real estate picture on these shows.
