AMERICAN IDOL SEASON 7 Results Show #1
by Deb Porter-Jones
The first elimination show opened tonight with the guys and the girls performing to a medley of sixties music. Everybody looked great; the girls in their myriad of sixties outfits and the guys in all black suits. But alas, the purpose of tonight’s show was to decide who was not going to be the next American Idol.
First, young Garrett Haley got the axe. You remember; he was the “Jesus kid” (meaning, he looked like Jesus) who sang “Don’t Take Your Love Away From Me”. Kinda dull, not too inspiring, but what do you expect from a 17-year-old? Simon thought he looked, “terrified, pale and haunted”.
Next on the chopping block was Amy Davis who sang “Where the Boys Are” by Patsy Kline. She sounded like she may have done okay, but her performance was definitely lacking in personality and originality.
Joanne Borghella was next. A beautiful girl, the plus-size model, gave a real lackluster performance last night, singing “I Say a Little Prayer For You”, almost like she didn’t really want to be there. Simon commented, “You can’t breeze your way through it.”
Colton Berry was the last to be sent home. He performed “Caught In a Trap”. His performance was just okay, but nothing to write home about it. So it was definitely not a surprise to see him going home. Simon suggested he, “Go home, get a job; sing on the side”.
Well, that’s it. The first cut and I think America did a great job. Onward and upward! Stay tuned!
