Garrett Haley Was Robbed!

I have this slogan that I just made up about American Idol: Winners never whine, and people who don’t make it out of the top 12 should stop whining. Feel free to use it whenever you need a slogan that involves winners and whining. According to Reality TV Magazine, Idol creator Nigel Lythgoe said that the first week of the semifinals would be a theme week and he implied that contestants would be able to choose the song they wanted to perform from a list of about 60 preselected songs. Idol finalist Garrett Haley later revealed during a conference call that he didn’t get to pick his songs because, the songs that he wanted had already been picked by other contestants.
Had he made it through, would he have told everyone this? Probably not. But now, we are alerted to the fact that maybe American Idol isn’t totally fair and impartial. Was this the first clue that Haley got? If so, he is going to have to pay more attention to the subtle and not so subtle hints left at his disposal. Not to be down on Garrett Haley, but everyone can’t make it out of the top 12, just like everyone who makes it through won’t win American Idol. Just like every American Idol is not going to be a great success, with an award winning album.
If Garrett Haley is talented, there will be plenty of opportunities for him in the future. But, if anything, he opened up the public’s eyes to the fact that show business is not always fair. And now, let’s all get over it.
