This Tuesday’s episode features the guys only. There are many surprise breakout performances and some not-so-surprising performances (read: consistently dull).
Michael Johns sang, “Go Your Own Way” by Fleetwood Mac.I say, “eh”.So did the judges. They all agreed that it wasn’t his best performance, but it wasn’t horrible. But who cares? He’s soo sexy!!
Jason Castro sang and played the guitar to “I Just Want to Be Your Everything” by Andy Gibb.He was just alright, too.Kinda hippie-ish. I think he’ll have to come harder than that to win this.Try again, Jason.Randy and Simon both thought he was uncomfortable playing guitar and singing simultaneously which didn’t come off well.Paula, as usual, gave him a pass.
Luke Mennard sang “Killer Queen” by Queen, and Randy and Simon both thought it was “a bit theatrical and difficult to sing”, but I also thought it was a dull and uninspiring performance.I call this guy “90210” : doesn’t he look like Luke Perry? The judges thought it was a tough song but he did a great job.Doesn’t really matter, it’s doubtful that he’ll be around long.
Robbie Carrico sang “Hot Blooded” by Foreigner and he is that… hot, I mean.Love the hair, love the smile, love the personality.Randy thought it was just okay, and that he doesn’t think rock is his thing, Paula thought he wasn’t giving it his all and Simon thought it was actually pretty good.He is going to have to “up the ante”, though.
Danny Noriega sang “Superstar” by The Carpenters.Again, it was just okay.Randy thought it was just “okay”, Paula thought he put too much thought into his performance and Simon thought he was doing the same.I think the guys are not gonna win this.
David Hernandez sang “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” by the Temptations and did he rock it!!He’s got talent and the other guys have him to beat!Randy loved it, Paula thought it was perfect and Simon thought it was the best vocal of the night.
David Yeager sang “Long Train Running’” by The Doobie Brothers. It was alright.Randy thought it was pitchy, kind of karaoke and he “didn’t get it.”Paula thought it was not a good song choice and Simon thought it was ghastly, “looked like he was drunk at a party” and he was disappointed.By now, David must feel like he can’t possibly do anything right.
Chikezie sang “I Believe to My Soul” by Donnie Hathaway, and, quite frankly, I believe.Randy loved his performance, Paula loved his performance, and Simon thought he looked and sounded much better than he has in the past.Chikezie’s definitely stepped up his game!
David Cook sang “Alright Now” by Free and he did a great job both singing and playing guitar. He was raw and gritty and real; so talented.David did a great job of belting out the lyrics and making beautiful music with that guitar!I think this was his best performance to date; he illuminated both of his talents, singing and guitar playing, and made them both seem effortless.I think he’s one to watch and so did all of the judges.Simon tried to steal his thunder a bit by offering that he has to give great performances consistently because he lacks charisma. Why can’t Simon give a compliment without snatching it back in the same sentence?
David Archuleta sang “Imagine” by John Lennon, with only a guitar accompanying him.It was a tough choice of song, but a smart one. This kid makes it look easy. All of the judges loved him, Paula was moved to tears and Simon feels that David’s the one to beat.
To sum things up, the guys who should be comfortable are David Archuleta (of course), David Cook, Chikezie and David Hernandez.Everyone else should pack their bags.
