Big Brother Will Return This Summer
Faith W | March 17, 2008According to The Hollywood Reporter, the usual summer edition of the reality show Big Brother will begin soon after the strike edition wraps up.
When CBS decided to air a winter version of the voyeuristic game show to fill the scheduling void caused by the writer’s strike, many wondered what would become of the perennial summer version. Then, when the winter version turned out to be a weird, sleazy version where even television editing could not give this group likable personalities or give viewers the impression that they were even truly capable of playing the game in an entertaining, intelligent fashion, a summer version was more doubtful. (Yeah, I know that was a long sentence, but this group is horrible.)
Ratings numbers have also been low compared to previous season’s of Big Brother, but it is also speculated the reason is because some episodes have gone up against the always popular American Idol. Or, it could be that people don’t want to see unattractive people with unattractive personalities treat themselves and each other with extreme disrespect in verbal and physical ways. Believe it or not, there is a limit to what viewers is entertaining, and what is just out and out lowbrow.
Hopefully, the summer version of Big Brother will return to its former model of fun summer entertainment, where the contestants are not exploiting each other sexually, and saying racially, socially and morally offensive things on the air in prime time, and actual realize that the reason they are there is to play a game for a lot of money.
I’m looking forward to seeing an old friend this summer, how about you?
