ESPN TKO’s The Contender

The boxing competition reality show The Contender, has been canceled by sports network ESPN after two seasons.

The show, which has springboarded the boxing careers of Peter Manfredo, Sergio Mora, Alfonso Gomez and others, was picked up by ESPN after cancellation on NBC. That first season, the hosts of the Mark Burnett co-produced show were Sylvester Stallone and legendary champion Sugar Ray Leonard. Stallone left after the first season.

Although ESPN will not be carrying The Contender, Jeff Wald, who is one of the show’s producers, and the promoter of Tournament of the Contenders is currently in the process of working out a deal with another network to pick up the show. More information to follow as it becomes available.

    My name is michael meek i have been training to become a boxer for about a year now its not much right now but i do what it takes whatever helps me get better and i have been watching the contender for as long as it has been on television and i have got to say that i would do whatever it takes to get on that show right now im only 17 but when i train i only train with guys over the age of 21 that are in 2 to 3 weight classes a head of me so that i can get better and because im the only 17 year old that goes to the gym. i wouldnt mind at all going against those bigger guys that i see on the show heck i wouldnt mind going against anyone that has been and that will be on the show because like i said i do whatever it takes. i have one strong left jab and one hell of a right hand to be my age and as little as i am. im light on my feet i have tremendous footwork and body work and one hell of a head on my shoulders. i know everyone on earth just about wants to get on this show but i can garrunttee that if i get put on the show then i will definately make it a whole lot farther than Richard Gringas and Lawrence Tauasa did and i can make sure you get a lot more veiwers tothe show and bring in a sold out arena everytime i fight………
