The Sci-Fi Channel has a competitive reality show in the works that will crown the winner as The Ultimate Gamer, and walk away with $100,000.
People have been playing video games professionally for years now, and ESPN even has their reality show, Madden Nation, where the contestants play the latest edition of Madden in a tournament. But the thing that will actually set Sci-Fi’s show apart from the others is that not only will the gamers play against each other through a console game, they will compete against each other in real life tasks based on whatever genre of game they are playing. For example, if the featured game on the show is a sports game, the players may also compete in a similar sports challenge.
The working title of the show is WCG GameQuest, and it is set to debut some time in early 2009. No word on who will be hosting.
