First Look at the Real World Brooklyn Crew

It’s almost time for the 21st season of MTV’s grandfather of all reality shows, The Real World, and it’s a wild realization that the show has been around so long that many of the people who have been on the show in the past couple of years will be too young to remember the very first group to live together in New York City. In about five years MTV can develop a spinoff where the children of their reality show alumni star in season of Real World.
But that won’t be happening this season. This season’s group of drama kings and queens will be staying in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, and if you recall the piece I did a few months ago about the loft, it’s not too shabby.
However, the decor always pales in comparison to the cast (housemates). MTV will have their first transgendered cast member, Katelynn. The rest of the cast is the typical slice of Americana youth, all different, but still fitting the MTV brand, which is starting to border on stereotypical. This is not a knock on the actual people on the show, but on actual show itself, which in some ways, is starting to show its age. In other words, the cookies are still great, but the recipe is getting old.
Sarah Portlock of The Brooklyn Paper has written an excellent review of the first episode of Real World: Brooklyn. Click here to read about the eight cast members and see pictures.
