Ty and the designers will be traveling to Keller, Texas to announce to the Augustin family, who lost their home and not-for-profit photography studio in a flood, that they will have a new home built in only seven days, on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” SUNDAY, MARCH 1 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on ABC .
Amber Augustin started up her volunteer photography business, “Tiny Works of Heart,” which was inspired by the premature birth of her third child, son Lane. The challenge of Lane’s birth and the family’s emotional and financial struggles during this period inspired Amber to volunteer her time and talent as a photographer to taking pictures of babies born in the N.I.C.U. (neonatal intensive care unit). Many of the babies born in N.I.C.U. don’t survive, making time spent between parents and their fragile babies very precious. For that reason, Amber started a free service and mission called “Tiny Works of Heart” to give families a chance to professionally capture their time with their fragile child. She also volunteers a great deal of time with an established organization whose intent is to provide hope, comfort, memories and a sense of “normalcy” to the families during these tough times.
On Father’s Day 2007, the Augustin family’s life was turned inside out when a flood ravaged their home. The damage was so extensive that the home was entirely destroyed, as well as Amber’s photography studio. Now it is up to Ty and the designers to rebuild their home and photography studio, which brought joy into the lives of hundreds of families affected by premature birth.
While Ty and the designers, local builder Wall Homes and hundreds of volunteers and workers are rebuilding their home, the Augustin family will go on vacation to Hawaii for a Hilton vacation.
The design team for this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will feature team leader Ty Pennington and designers Paul DiMeo, Eduardo Xol, Tracy Hutson and John Littlefield.

I was so inspired by Amber and her story. I am a budding photographer but I am so inspired that I would like to do something like she does but with premies and maybe with just all around children. We have a large children’s hospital here in Phoenix and maybe that would be a good place to start. I am so incredibly moved that it really can’t be put in to more words than this. We are so lucky to have Amber here on this earth.
A new website is being built for Tiny Works of Heart.
http://tinyworksofheart.org
Check soon and often as it is developed.
I’m in AL., and a photographer. I’ve wanted to be a part of something like this for awhile now. I loved Amber’s story on Home Makeover. In the Mobile area we have quite a few photographers involved with NILMDTS. Tiny Works Of Heart would be great here too, and I would love to be involved!
I goggle “tiny works of heart” and didn’t come up with an official site, but if you’re interested (Meredith), take a look at the organization that I belong to, which is the same thing: Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (www.nilmdts.org).
Awesome show !! After watching (with a box of tissue) I would love to get involved. I lost a baby at 5 months about 23 years ago. The only tangeable piece of him are his tiny footprints the nurse thought to give me. A photo would have made the image I keep in my heart seem much clearer. How does a person volunteer ??
T find more information and/or volunteer for the organization Amber is part of, log onto http://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org
Thank you all for your kindness!
There is another organization that is NATIONALLY established & I would recommend to get involved with – it is called Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. Go to http://www.nilmdts.org & find out how to get involved. They are who I volunteer with when a baby passes. Tiny Works of Heart is something I do locally in the N.I.C.U’s & I don’t have it completely established as of yet to be able to have other volunteers….I am working on it…
Thanks again for your support

I too felt this was an amazing story.. and am interested in volunteering to preserve the memories of the dear little one.
What a great show for a talented and deserving lady. I love the “Extreme” shows always, but as a birth-mother and avid “photographer wannabe”, I know there is a niche for photographs taken for those families that release their babies for adoption placement. It is a different difficulty from the one experienced by those with premature births, but I know that birth-families would treasure photos of their babies as dearly as those featured on the show. Maybe this is something that could be developed by Tiny Hearts, to bless more with the memories that a photo may preserve. I’ll keep my eyes and ears open to hear more from others along this line.
I am very touched by Amber’s work. I am in California and would love to be part of Tiny Works of Heart. If anyone knows how I can volunteer for the foundation please let me know. Amber you are an amazing person and I applaud you and your family.
