Mackenzie Phillips says she had consensual incest with her father

Talk about too much effing information: child actress Mackenzie Phillips, who was on Oprah today promoting her new book, High on Arrival, says she had a ten year sexual relationship with her father, John Phillips of  The Mamas and The Papas fame.

The relationship, described by her as “consensual incest” started when she was 19, on the eve of her wedding. She claims she woke up from a drug-induced sleep and found him on top of her, having sex. Their inappropriate relationship ended ten years later when she became pregnant and didn’t know who the father was. She claims John Phillips paid for an abortion.

In John Phillips defense, Oprah read a statement from his wife during that period, Genvieve Waite, who claims that the former rock star would never do something like that to his own child. Mackenzie’s half-sister, Chynna Phillips (of  the group Wilson Phillips) said that she told her about the relationship in 1997, and she believes her. John Phillips passed away in 2001.

Mackenzie Phillips, who has struggled with drug addiction most of her life, is now sober, and will be a sober coach in the third season of the VH1 reality show, Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew.
