Reality tv star Steve O has come a long way since we reported on his arrest and hospitalization last year. Watching him on Dancing With the Stars this season alsmost made me forget that he was once one of the guys who did insanely painful things to their bodies for laughs in shows like Jackass and Wildboyz.
In Steve O: Demise and Rise, viewers will get a first hand account of his life as an active addict and his life in recovery. He writes about the documentary in his MySpace blog:
This documentary shows me in really bad shape. I watched it one time, when they first put it together, and had a very bad reaction to it. You’d think that seeing myself like that would really help me stay sober, but watching footage of me doing drugs just triggered insane urges to get loaded. I can’t watch it anymore, but everyone else in America can- on MTV, at 10pm on Sunday, May 3rd.
I was in a psychiatric ward when I first decided to really try to get sober, imagining that I could “do a lot of good in the world”. Over three months later, having stayed clean the whole time, I was in another psychiatric ward- because I finally realized what an asshole I had become. I’m not trying to stay sober today because I want to save the world, I’m doing it because I don’t want to be that asshole I used to be. If swallowing, snorting, smoking, and huffing drugs and alcohol for years before realizing it turned me into an asshole makes me “inspirational”, that’s pretty funny.
I wish I could say that I’ll stay sober for a long time, but I can’t, and that’s the sad truth. I love you all,
Steve-O

Even though Steve-O has hospitalized himself for depression, he is still very much on the road to recovery and is taking care of himself. His latest post on his blog confirms his dedication to bringing positivity to his life and the lives of those around him:
“Hello Everyone,
I can best describe the depression that led me to check into this looney bin as “a feeling of uselessness”. I was finding it impossible to forgive myself for horrible things that I’ve done in the past, feeling like I couldn’t live up to my new expectations of myself, and like I was stuck being someone that I wasn’t proud of being. Depression was kicking my ass, so I went to my doctor for help, and he told me I’d better check into this funny farm. I believe that the best treatment for just about every disease of the mind is to be of service to others, and in order for addicts to stay in recovery from addiction, they must do things that make them feel useful. I’ve stayed clean for four months now, but, judging by the depression that brought me to this nut house, I need to do much more in the way of being useful. What I’m getting at here is that I think I might just be able to stay clean, and live a happier, fuller life, if I come up with lots of silly little ways (or big ones) to “live usefully”. One day, not long ago, when I was deliberate about thinking of others and being useful, it turned out to be a really great day for me, Ryan Simonetti, and a whole bunch of little kids. I turned my birthday into a SKATEBOARD RAGE-O-RAMA! Check it out!:”

Reality star Steve-O was admitted Sunday to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A. according to TMZ.com.
Steve-O, whose real name is Stephen Gilchrist Glover, was also charged by the L.A. District Attorney’s Office with felony possession of cocaine, stemming from a March 3 arrest where he trashed a neighbor’s property.
According to Star magazine, he was taken to the medical facility after threatening to take his life. This is the same hospital where Owen Wilson stayed when he recently attempted suicide. He was then taken to Thalians Mental Health Center and was put on a 72 hour watch, which has since been extended to 14 days.
Apparently, the star of Jackass and Wildboyz was distraught over a breakup, and emailed several friends suicide notes over the weekend. When he arrived at the hospital he was in a manic state and had to be stablized with medication, and treated for, “burns on his skin as if he were putting cigarettes out on his body,” according to a source.
Glover recently starred in his own reality show on USA Network, called Dr. Steve-O.
