The Real World 22 is currently casting, and all over the country young adults are getting their votes on the website, sending in their applications or going to the open calls. Tens of thousands will try to get on, only 7 will have a chance to get drunk and make out in the hot tub. What can you do to get noticed by the casting director of The Real World, that doesn’t involve taking off your clothes and doing something ridiculous? Reality Wanted interviewed Real World 22 casting director Damon Furberg, and here’s what he has to say about making a good casting tape:
There are a lot of things but make sure you spend a couple minutes talking about yourself. Keep it simple but let us know who you are. Don’t go overboard and over produce it, real talent is hard to overlook. Also something to steer away from is rehearsing it too much. Go in knowing 3-4 things about you that make you interesting. At the end of the day we are looking for the right personality for the show, not someone that just has gimmicks. This show has been around for a lot of years so we are not looking for another Puck or a character that has been on in the past. We want to know about you, not how you compare to other characters from past seasons.
He also talks about whether they are partial to people from certain parts of the country (they aren’t), if you should you be discouraged by the amount of other applicants, and whether it is worth your while going to an open casting call. For the record, he feels it is absolutely worth going to open calls, because from his standpoint there is no substitute for meeting someone face-to-face.
