BB 10’s Memphis is Auctioning Off His Bandana

When you come in second place on Big Brother, you win $50,000. No, it’s not half a million dollars, but it’s nothing to sneeze at, right? So, you would think that Memphis Garrett, runner up in Big Brother 10, would hang on to a memento or two. Maybe he is, but this week he is eBaying his red Renegades bandanna.

The auction says, “Big Brother 10 Memphis Original Signed Renegade Bandanna Memphis wore this bandanna the entire show.” So it smells all Memphis-y, and stuff. Just kidding; I’m sure it was laundered, something I am not sure about when it comes to Dan Gheesling’s now fossilized lucky black and white shorts.

Check out Memphis’ auctions here.

Big Brother 10 Players Fatal Mistakes, Part 2

With the season finale of Big Brother 10 tonight, I  think it’s appropriate for me to wrap up my Player’s Fatal Mistakes. Depending on what happens tonight, we’ll find out whether Dan or Memphis made a fatal mistake in their game play.

Michelle: Actually, this eviction  made the least sense to me. Michelle was actually a victim of Ollie’s stupidity.  She didn’t actually do anything, aside from break down into personal, irrational, paranoid strategies in the end.  But I do think that overall, she would have lasted longer had she not gotten into the “us versus them” mentality .

Ollie: Ollie spent way too much time letting his penis run his game .  For the most part, he let  April do everything, and when the time came to step up, he revealed that his game play was mad weak and foolish, son.  Once he found out that it was stupid to think that Dan was stupid enough to give him complete power, and Michelle was put on the block, he let the whole game get away from him .  Actually , even though Michelle was a casualty of the his deal, he should  have been happy with the reality that he was OK .  Time spent trying to save Michelle should’ve been spent trying to align himself with someone else.  And his temperamental outburst after falling for the okie doke took him completely out of his game, and sealed his fate.

Renny: Renny got to the point in the game where your survival depends on the numbers and your sheer ability to play the game.  Nothing more.  She couldn’t win the POV, and as a result she couldn’t save herself.

Keesha: Keesha did nothing wrong, and she got as far as she could get in the game .  Like many, she couldn’t save herself, and had to rely on people who didn’t have her ultimate  best interest at heart in the game.

And now it’s down to the last two, Dan and Memphis .  Like I said before, I respect the anyone who makes it to this point . It was a good season, it was a great cast.  And I wish both guys the best of luck tonight.  Who do I think will win it all? out of the two that are left, and the true Renegade is Dan.  He is definitely Butch Cassidy and Memphis is just his Sundance Kid .

Big Brother 10 Players Fatal Mistakes Part 1

As we reach the end of another wild season of Big Brother, it’s time for me to take on the role of Monday morning quarterback and tell you  where I think each player blew their chance at a half a million dollars. It’s time for Player’s Fatal Mistakes.

Now, I know that I haven’t been a fan of Dan’s game play, and I am really struggling to see anything Memphis had done this season in the way of active strategizing (making deals with everyone doesn’t require much thought). But at the end of the game,  you have to admit that at least one of the two people played the game well. So, I give Dan all due respect. I think the biggest issue that I have from an entertainment standpoint, was that The Renegades weren’t as cool or as awesome as their name would lead you to believe.  Let’s move on:

Brian: Usually the first person to go is kind of a sacrificial lamb: no one knows anyone yet, but someone has to go. This isn’t the case with Brian. Brian seemed poised to be the actual star of the season, and teamed up with Dan, he would have actually made The Renegades and team to remember. Brian had charisma and was charming, in a salesman kind of way, with the potential to be persuasive, and he had the spark in his diary room sessions that you usually only see in good players. His mistake? He played too hard, too fast. He made a deal with everyone in the house. How smart is it to make a deal with everyone, when you don’t have a feel for anyone’s personality yet? Would have liked to see him make to All Stars, but it’s unlikely since he shot himself in the foot strategically as soon as he set foot in the house.

Angie: She was the exact opposite of Brian, in that she was way too laid back, especially when it came time to save herself. Her argument when saying a few last words to save herself before voting was excellent. Saying that in the end there could only be one winner of Big Brother, and that each player had to actually play the game for themselves when they cast their vote was great. The problem was that the time to say it was when she should have been campaigning to stay, not right before she was ready to go. She didn’t give anyone a reason to keep her around, but she gave a speech that was so good that other houseguests used it as well, also at the wrong time.

Steven: He was a nice guy, and everyone liked him. His problem was that he befriended Brian, which made him look bad, and he hung out with Angie. The time to hang out with folks, is not when their demise is imminent. It kind of makes you a loser by association.

Jessie: Jessie was a guy who could have stayed in the game a lot longer. His mistake was that he didn’t know when to shut up. His weird view of “respect” and his youthful arrogance made him a victim of his own ego, and the America’s Player vote.

Libra: A victim of the revenge eviction for putting Jessie on the block for purely personal reasons, she also had the fatal flaw of not knowing when to keep her mouth shut. She actually was one of the first people to actually demonstratively play the game, but she was aligned with people who brought their personal issues into game play, which enhanced out the abrasiveness of her personality.

April: There was a lot wrong with April’s game, aside from the fact that she spent way too much time making YouTube sex tapes with Ollie. She thought of herself as being a great player and a threat, because she won the endurance competition. Put in its proper perspective, that competition was, in fact, the easiest for her to win. Furthermore, winning a couple of comps doesn’t make you a great player; there are more factors involved than that. Her tendency to polarize her every view in the game, and to isolate herself, made her seem like she wasn’t exactly a team player much of the time.

Part 2 of Players Fatal Mistakes will be up on Tuesday. In the meantime, I’d like to know you opinions, so leave a comment.

It’s been a busy few days in the Big Brother house, with the dismissal of Michelle and Ollie. It’s always strange after double-eviction week, and for BB fans, it’s a little sad, because you know it’s just a matter of a couple of weeks until it’s all over.

Anyway, things were on shaky ground for a few days, and depending on who you are rooting for to win it all, it doesn’t look good.

Dan’s Big Brother 10 HoH Blog and Pictures

August 28, 2008 by Faith Whitfield
Filed under Big Brother, Big Brother 10

Each week on Big Brother 10 the Head of Household blogs about their experience in the BB house to date. Dan just stepped down as HoH. This is his blog:

First off, I have to thank AMERICA for voting me America’s Player!!! Finding out that I was voted America’s Player was a huge surprise for me personally. I truly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart and I am very humbled by those who voted. I did my best to give you (America) exactly what you asked for, especially with the masculine yet awkward 18 second hug.

In this house I try not to take ANYTHING too seriously because this is a once in a lifetime experience. Everyday I am in this house I try to stay as positive as I can because even when the chips are down a positive attitude can pull you through a lot of tough situations.

Regarding the actual game of Big Brother, it has been a lot tougher then even I imagined. I came in this house trying to play as hard as I can right from the start and I found someone with a similar mindset in Brian. When Brian was evicted it changed the entire game for me and I realized I had to shift gears to play the “weak player” strategy. I’ve had to throw A LOT of competitions to get to where I am now and being a competitive person it was a very difficult thing for me to do. I’m not a huge fan of losing so to intentionally lose is a lot harder then it may seem. But make no mistake about it, with every competition I have thrown (I like to call it the Art of the Throw) I have had SO MUCH fun doing so. Anytime I would throw a competition I would try to “one-up” or do a more convincing job of each throw, and whether I fooled anyone or not, I hope you all got a kick out of it!

This brings me to my current state of the game as HOH. Clearly I have abandoned the Art of the Throw and am now playing the game as hard as I can. This week by gambling with my hidden alliance member (the Renegades) Memphis’ life in the game, I took a huge risk. Lucky for me it has paid off so far, but I have had to do some shady things in the process. I did break a major deal with Ollie by nominating Michelle (someone who I actually like, but is a tough competitor) and it was not an easy decision. In this game you have to make tough decisions because you are fighting for your life every week. Whether or not the decision is right or wrong I am sure I will find out, but at the end of the day I felt it was the best move for me and my alliance in Keesha, Renny, and Memphis. It is nearly impossible to win this game by yourself, so I hope that trusting my alliance does not come back to haunt me!

In this house I try to have as much fun as possible, which includes messing with Renny, making fun of Renny, Swim Club (which has been canceled due to lack of enrollment), poking at Renny, eating Renny’s dinners, trying to feed birds in the backyard, making Renny cut my hair, doing cannonballs in the pool, and of course acting like a “mature” 24 year old teacher. Big Brother has given me the opportunity to do things I never thought possible, which includes acting like a kid again, and I am taking that and RUNNING with it. You can’t take life in this house too seriously because you will never get out alive!

Some people may wonder why I have not gotten angry at Jerry for the “Judas” comment or any of the other personal shots people have taken at me. The reason that you do not see me respond or fight with them is because I know that people say things in the heat of the battle that they may or may not mean. I do not take any of the things people say in this house personally or seriously.

Real quick I would like to play a game, its called Big Brother Word Association (don’t worry, no more Replacement Nominee Roulette, that didn’t go over so well did it?). It may give you some insight as to how I actually feel about people in this house.

Renny – Caring/Crazy
Memphis – Strong/Loyal Friend
Keesha – Midwest Girl/Great Heart
Michelle – Defensive/Strong Willed
Jerry – Giving His Best Effort
Ollie – Confused without April / Funny
Brian – Hilarious/Loyal
Stephen – Wild/Smart
Angie – Fun/Guarded
April – Driven
Libra – Opinionated
Jesse – The Hulk

On a personal note, here are a few loves of mine if you are interested (if not skip this paragraph). Monica, coaching high school football, teaching young minds, spending time with my family, running, following Michigan State University sports, and hanging out with my friends.
Pretty wild, huh?

I may take some flak for things I have done in this game because I am a Catholic School Teacher, but I would just like to say that I take my job and responsibility as a teacher VERY seriously. It is my passion in life and I hope that the students that I have taught and players that I have coached have not lost any respect for me or look at me in a negative light, because no amount of money in the world is worth that happening. If I could deliver a message to the Men of St. Mary’s it would be: Keep the faith in God even in the most crazy situations, trust Him for guidance, and play as hard as you can within the confines of the rules of the game!

Last but certainly not least I have to thank my family, friends, fans, the city of DEARBORN Michigan, students and faculty of Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep (who I hope are still keeping my teaching job for me), the St. Mary’s Eaglet Football Team (BEAT EGR on Thursday and get the Red Rowdies going!), and of course my beautiful girlfriend (whom I love VERY much) Monica for their support. Seeing the photos and reading the letter from home has re-energized me in this game. At this point I am playing this game for my family and everyone back home in Dearborn! I hope I have made you all proud even with some of the shady moves that I have made (and trust me I KNOW they were shady, but I am trying to WIN). My thoughts and prayers are with everyone back home in Dearborn and of course with the Orchard Lake St. Mary’s FOOTBALL Team, get a win and start the season out 1-0. I miss you all, TAU Monica.

And always remember, OLSM #1 In Michigan!

a.k.a America’s Player 2.0 – the new and improved version, a little bigger, a little stronger, and better looking ;)

P.S. I really am going to go to Confession as soon as I get out of this crazy house, so get ready for a marathon session.

Dan vs The Donatos in Big Brother 8? It Could Have Been

August 27, 2008 by Faith Whitfield
Filed under Big Brother, Big Brother 10, Big Brother 8

Picture this: it’s summer 2007, and Big Brother 8 is going full steam. Daniele Donato is winning more competitions than the law allows, Amber is somewhere crying about life in general, and Evel Dick is raising hell. And Dan Gheesling is America’s Player, squirting mustard on Jen’s clothing, casting “hinkey” votes and at our beck and call. Yes, instead of Eric in the DR, raising his eyebrow and getting his orders from America, it could have been Dan in the DR, over projecting his voice and heeding our wishes.

The Big Brother player who has turned the house upside down this week, actually first applied to be on the show two years ago, according to an interview with his sister, Kelly. The producers actually asked him to be on the show two or three times, but he turned it down because the timing wasn’t right for him and he wanted to finish college.

Had he actually accepted sooner, maybe things could have been different last summer. Click here to read the full article.
