Get to know Blue of From G’s to Gents

blueI have an admission to make. When I first saw Blue on the MTV reality show From G’s to Gents, I didn’t get him. I couldn’t understand why anyone would move out of their parent’s home to live in a homeless shelter. And I really couldn’t understand how anyone could risk their bed at the homeless shelter for a chance to do an elimination-style reality show. After learning more about him, I not only understand him but respect what I once thought was a foolish decision.

Kevin “Blue” Hampton, a 22 year old young man from Los Angeles, moved out of the home he shared with his mother and younger sister when he realized that they lived next door to a member of a rival gang. Although he had spent much of his life being homeless, he was willing to live in a shelter alone if it meant keeping himself and his family safe.

Blue describes his experience on the show as “life-changing”, and is thankful for the mentorship of host Farnsworth Bentley. A soft-spoken young man with a illuminating grin, he says that the From G’s to Gents experience gave him a chance to come out of his shell and grow in ways he have never imagined. He discovered his strengths, and learned to stand up for himself and speak out when needed. He was able to look at the world around him, and understand more profoundly inner struggles of the people around him.

“ I learned that a person just can’t stop drinking, or selling drugs or get out of a gang just because they want to,” he said. He understands that there are many missteps that a person makes before they realize they are on the wrong path  and  many obstacles that make it harder to change direction. It is a lesson learned as he got to know the other contestants on the show, many of whom he still talks to on a regular basis. He tells me that like him, they are doing well and are determined to apply the experience to make a positive change in their lives.

When asked where he sees himself in five years, Blue says that he plans to teach others that they can turn their lives around like he did and he plans to become a motivational speaker. His goal is to create a non-profit foundation to help people get on the right track. Not bad for a young man who just a short time ago could not envision his own survival.

I  askedhim  if there was anything he wanted people who watched From G’s to Gents to know about him he said, “I just want people to know I’m not a snake,” referring to specific incidents on the show where it may have seemed that he sold his friends out to get ahead. He says that things aren’t always the way they appear on television. He also wants people to know that he’s not usually prone to crying. “I hadn’t cried for 10 years before I came on the show…it just all came out.”

You can find out who wins season 2 of From G’s to Gents tonight at 10 pm on MTV.

MTV’s From G’s to Gents Will Be Back for Another Season

The Jamie Foxx produced reality show, From G’s to Gents was such a big hit for MTV that they decided to bring it back for another season:

MTV, Cris Abrego from 51 Minds, and executive producer Jamie Foxx for FoxxKing Entertainment head back to the hood for another season of “From G’s to Gents”. Hosted by author, recording artist and arbiter of good taste, Fonzworth Bentley is ready to mentor a whole new group of Gs who all believe they have what it takes to shed their bad boy images and make life altering changes. Mr. Bentley will also be added to the producers’ team next season and says, “With casting already underway, my goal for this season is to really reach deeper into the G culture to find young men who society has discounted or cast aside, and give these men an opportunity to turn their lives around”.

The first season finale, which named “Creepa” from Florida as the first member of The Gentleman’s Club, had over 50 million viewers. The show is hosted by musical personality Fonzworth Bentley, who will also serve as a producer in the upcoming season.

Creepa is the Winner of From G’s to Gents

Congratulations to Creepa, the winner of the first season of MTV’s from G’s to Gents. Creepa came from a violent background of Miami Gardens, Florida a place where his father was killed when he was just a child, and where day-to-day living was purely a matter of survival of the fittest, and luck of the draw. As a result, he learned at an age to be a thug to survive, and take care of his family.

He has come a long way in the house during this season, and I hope that he does relocate himself and his family, and continue to build on the succeess and growth that took root in the show.

Winner of From G’s to Gents Leaked?

(dated August 13, 2008)

According to Dramareality, the winner of From G’s to Gents is none other than Shaun. On a more interesting note, there is a dude on the show that is a little too clean cut, and soft spoken for the show, and stood out from day one, in my opinion. That person would be actor, Markice Moore (playing the role of Kesan on the show), who was in the movie ATL, and some small roles in upcoming films. I’m still not sure that reality tv is a step to becoming a legitimate actor, but apparently, poor, young and impatient kids with marginal talent are determined to prove me wrong by trying.
