Reality Roll Call

As the once-mighty Sacramento Kings work to regain their dominant rule of the court, Mark Burnett Productions and Maloof Television today announced they are joining forces on a new unscripted drama following the basketball team’s restructuring. “Rebuilding the Kingdom” will focus on the franchise as it undergoes a complete reformation.

In the vein of “The Restaurant,” this look at a high-stakes, high-pressure work environment will not only profile a team of talented players and coaches on the comeback trail, but will delve into the unique everyday challenges inherent in running an NBA franchise. Viewers will be given unprecedented access as executives rebrand the Kings, strategize on how to keep the 17,000-seat Arco Arena full, and keep the Sacramento community engaged while the team develops.

 

“We are thrilled to continue our expansion into television with the King of Reality TV,” said Maloof Television Chairman/CEO Phil Maloof. “We are honored at the opportunity to be a part of Mark Burnett’s family of hits.”

Not to the party, but to watch the show. NBC is working on a reality show in which celebrities will host a dinner party for four of their famous friends. The dinner party will be judged for its presentation, entertainment value and food.

Reality tv production company Grenada America has partnered with NBC in this venture, and the production company has been very successful with this format overseas. However, they used regular people in the international version, not celebrities.

At this point the reality show, whose working title is “Celebrity Come Dine With Me,”  is in development, with a scheduled five episode run in December.

It seems like forever since Danny Jamieson asked Melinda Stolp to marry him on the Real World Austin, and we have been waiting for news of when the happy couple would finally tie the knot, The wait is over: Danny and Melinda were married on August 2, in Ipswich, Massachusetts.

The couple was married at a 165 estate called Castle Hill, and except for Nehemiah, all of the castmates from Austin were in attendance. Randy Barry from Real World San Diego, who lives in Boston and is friends with both Danny and Melinda, was also in attendance.

Briana Vega, 16, from Winter Springs, Florida, and Christie Brooke, 18, from Ka’a'awa, Hawaii, were the first two contestants “sent to the chorus” of the reality program “High School Musical: Get in the Picture.” The teens will remain on the program, but are no longer in contention for the grand prize.

At the end of the series, which airs Mondays 8:00-9:00 p.m. ET, one talented newcomer will become a part of “High School Musical” history. The winner will literally “get in the picture” when he/she stars in a music video shown in the end credits of the feature film, Disney’s “High School Musical 3: Senior Year,” opening this fall. In addition, the winner will also receive an exclusive talent hold agreement with ABC and a recording contract for two digital singles with Walt Disney Records, one of which will be a version of the song from the music video.

It wouldn’t be August without a Tiffany “New York” Pollard reality show, would it?  New York has done four reality shows for VH1 in two years, and made an appearance in Flavor of Love Girls: Charm School, and will drop by I Love Money before all is said and done. And just when you think there is nothing left for her to do, except maybe another I Love New York, the network has found another reality tv vehicle for her in New York Goes to Hollywood, which airs tonight at 10:00 PM.

Recently The L.A. Times interviewed Tiffany, and as usual, she was quite outspoken. She admits that she is actually addicted to watching reality tv herself, and feels that it “can be a lesson on how not to act.”  And it doesn’t matter to her if people also see her behavior on television as an example of bad conduct, because she doesn’t see herself as a role model

A few years ago Full House’s Jodie Sweetin would have been a prime candidate for Intervention or Celebrity Rehab. But little Stephanie has kicked her meth addiction  without losing any teeth, married a great guy, and started a family. And that family is going to be the basis of her reality show.

The currently untitled show, will be about Jodie, her husband, set designer Cody Herpin, and their life with their baby daughter. Says Sweetin, “I think it’s sort of a fun way to show the other side of celebrity and a sort of semi-normal life.” According to People Magazine, the show has yet to be picked up by a network yet, but several are interested.

07/30/2008 (09:00PM - 10:00PM) (Wednesday) : THE CIRCLE COMPLETES IN THE HEART-WRENCHING SEASON FINALE The teen couples have experienced all stages of parenthood, from infants, toddlers, pre-teens and teens, but now is the final test of adulthood — taking care of senior citizens. While taking care of the elderly — all with individual levels of mobility and various ailments, the couples all get the chance to learn about their lives, relationships and touching life experiences. After becoming close to the seniors, the teens must say goodbye and reflect on what they have learned during the social experiment. The episode closes with updates on where each of the couples are now.

On this week’s episode of  Bravo’s Project Runway, Tim Gunn takes the contestants out in the rainy streets of Manhattan at night for their assignment. You can’t really tell what he has in mind for them in this clip, but it does end with that age-old reality show saying: “I’m not here to make friends.”

Always a turbulent couple, Morgan and Daton’s relationship trouble come to a head, leaving Morgan to make a tough decision. Each couple quickly learns some of the challenges teens pose, from a difficult family outing to finding their teens out of bed in the middle of the night. After an interesting three days, the couples get their chance to tell the parents how well their kid behaved and not every parent is ready to hear it.

What a strange coincidence that reality show host and producer Ryan Seacrest was bitten by a shark during Shark Week! Sounds like some kind of promotional deal was worked out with the sharks and this century’s cross between Dick Clark and Casey Kasem.

Seacrest’s life was hardly at risk…unless the shark’s mother was waiting in the wings to maul him. It seems that the American Idol host was offshore in waters that were 4 feet deep when a shark the size of a cat bit him on the toe, leaving three holes in his toe.

Okay, it’s not that bad, but if you have been watching Shark Week on Discovery, you’d realize that had it been a bigger shark, Seacrest might have certainly been out. Permanently.
